Frame Alarm
Anyone know of a gadget to fix door alarm sensors onto rounded PVC doors?
We recently had our old wooden front door replaced with a PVC one. We have a security system. The old wooden door closed flush, so that the door and the frame were level and the magnetic contacts were right next to each other.
However, the new PVC door has a rounded lip which sits off the frame and is not flush. This means that the magentic sensors don’t sit flush next to each other.
At the moment I’ve used some strong white tape to fix the sensors. This works, but the sensors aren’t flush with each other, and it looks rubbish. And it also acts as a magnet to my little girl who likes to pull them off the door!
Are there any gadgets/fixings you can get that enable you properly fix these sensors to a rounded PVC door, with the sensors reasonably close together? I’m sure I’m not the first person to have this problem…
Okay, this may sound daft, but trust me…
You need to pack the gap between the door frame and the flush magnetic contact.
That is, once the contact is in the correct place, there is going to be a slight gap. What I used was tile fixing plugs, sealed in with Silicon adhesive.
OK, may not be the best way, but it worked for me. Also, as its silicon adhesive, its a pretty strong bond. That should stop “little fingers” trying to remove it. And, if you do need to replace, it can be removed, albeit hard, and the reside cleaned away.
